Jiading Industrial Zone was established in 1992. In September 1994, approved by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, it became a municipal-level industrial zone. The Zone's planned area covers 24.8 square kilometers and its first phase development covers 8.4 square kilometers. The Zone will be a high-level industrial park that keeps pace with the world's economic development. The Zone will consist of high-tech and modern industries supplemented by tertiary industries and social well-being undertakings.

Jiading High-tech Park, a state-level high-tech park, is a main part of Jiading Industrial Zone.

Environment For Investment

The infrastructure construction of the first phase development has been completed with roads, power supply, water and gas supply, drainage system, pollution control, and communications ready for use. The greenery occupies 30 percent of the zone. Besides, the zone is complete with apartment buildings, schools and hospitals. By June 1999. 181 foreign-funded enterprises had been approved to enter the Zone. They include some world famous enterprises, such as CARRIER, SCOTSMAN of America. FUJITSU, ITOCHU. TOYOTA MOTOR NISSHO IWAI, MITSUBISHI of Japan, Z.F, Continental Teves of Germany; REMY MARTIN of France, PACIFIC INTERNAIONAL LINE of Singapore and WACOAL, ASIA CHEMICAL CORPORATION, ACTION ELECTRONICS, AURORA, FIRST INTERNATIONAL COMPUTER INC. of TAIWAN. Total investment reached USD 1.08 billion. High-tech industries such as auto parts manufacturing, refrigeration, computer, and precision mechanism have become pillar industries of the Zone.

Endowed with natural beauty, Jiading is known as "a shining pearl in the south of Yangtze river" With a population of 480,000, Jiading is noted for its science-tech development, auto industry and tourist resources. It has 5,965 industrial enterprises, of which 1,459 are Sino-foreign joint ventures, cooperative businesses, and wholly foreign-funded enterprises, with investment amounting USD 3.8 billion. In 1998, its GDP reached RMB 15 billion. The District's export value reached RMB 10.7 billion, ranking first place among all the districts in Shanghai.

Located in the Northwest of Shanghai, Jiading is at the only road 1inking Shanghai and Jiangsu Province. It has plane land and a mild climate, with an average annual temperature of 15.48℃, an annual precipitation of 100l.8 mm, an average relative humidity of 8l %, and an average wind speed of 3.3 m/sec. The loading capacity of its grounds is about 8 ton per square meter

Convenient Location
1. By air: It is 25 kilometers or 15 minutes’ drive to the Hongqiao international

Airport: It is 75 kilometers or 45 minutes’ drive to the Pudong International Airport.

2. By sea: It is 25 kilometers to the Container Port of Zhanghuabang.

3. By rail: It is 6 kilometers to Nanxiang Station. The largest cargo railway hub in East China.

4. By highway: 204 National Highway runs through the Industrial Zone. Shanghai-jiading Expressway reaches the Industrial Zone. Other highways like 312 National Highway, Shanghai-Nanjing and Shanghai-Hangzhou highways link the Zone with other parts in South and North China and areas along the Yangtze River.

5. By river: Wenzhao Riber, Hengli River, and Lianqi River are navigable for vessel of 300 tons.

Excellent Infrastructure
1. Water supply: Tap water comes from the Yangtze River. Capacity for water supply is 140,000 ton each day. Water quality reaches 1997 standards of the World Health Organization.

2. Power supply: Shidongkou Power Plant and the East China Network of Power Supply form two separate supply system. During the first phase of development, the Zone has one 220KVA sub-transformer station and three 35KVA transformer substations.

3.Gas: The Zone uses the municipality’s pipe gas and has a gas storage tank of 54,000 cubic meters.

4. Communications: Underground cables have been laid and ISDN digital service is supplied

5. Sewage treatment: The Zone has separate pipes for rainwater and sewage. Sewage is treated separately.

6. Roads: Well-planned, flat and wide.

Human Resources
The city of Jiading, where the Industrial Zone is located, has rich human resources including highly skilled workers. Shanghai University Jiading Campus and quite a few state-level research institutes and plants engaging in atomic nucleus, computer, optical precision instruments, silicate, and space technology are located in Jiading. The Zone boats more than 6,000 professionals in various fields. The Returned Overseas Students’ Park attracts near a hundred returned students every year. All kinds of technical and management personnel are available in the job market.
