Added Value of Tertiary Industry: In 2002, the added value of tertiary industry in suburbs is 61.588 billion yuan, up 12.39% from last year, accounting 2.39% higher than the city total and 36.65% of tertiary industry in suburbs.

Suburban Commerce: Diversified shopping malls, special shops, monopoly shops & convenient chain shops have been settled down in suburbs. Retail sales volume reached 93.014 billion yuan, up 17.2 % from last year while city exchange volume of free market exceeded 22.767 billion yuan, up 7.1% from previous year.

Tourism: Tourism in suburbs has been characterized with leisure. In 2002, income from tourism reached 1.95 billion yuan, up 40% from last year. “Peach Blossom & Squash Festival” in Nanhui, “Rape Seed Festival” in Jinshan, “Kite Festival” in Fengxian, “Chrysanthemum Festival” in Jiading, “Happy Farmer Festival” in Chongming have become the attraction of suburb’s tourism.

Real Estate: 2002 was the great year for real estate development in Shanghai suburbs with investment in real estate reached 21.966 billion yuan, accounting 35.05% of the fixed assets investment, up 45.1% than the prervious year. Real estate companies in suburbs accumulate to 1,035, up 15.3% from last year. Completed construction area hits 9.9209 million square meters, up 17.6 percent from last year with area sold to 9.301 million, up 17.6 percent from last year and emptied area to 1.9599 million, 38.6% lower than last year. Commercial apartments sale exceed to 2.8653 million square meters, up 27.1 percent from last year.

Suburban Logistics:  In 2002, storage sector developed steadily. By the end of 2002, 1000 warehouses with total assets of 1 billion yuan have been located in suburbs and the total storage volume reached 20 billion yuan. Construction of the logistics and wholesale market has been invested to over 1 billion yuan such as Jiangqiao in Jiading .

Agro-products Exhibition:  In 2002, 23 provinces and cities participated the grand agricultural exhibition with total turnover reached 3 billion yuan, especially the first grand exhibition of “Shanghai Agro-products of New Spring Festival” held in 2002, which served as the platform to the whole country.
