Foreign Investment Absorbing: Speed of introducing foreign investment is rapid. In 2002, foreign investment absorbing created a new historical record in Shanghai suburbs. 1730 projects have been approved in 2002, up 31% from previous year with contractual foreign investment exceeded US$ 6.85 billion dollars, up 54% than last year. Actual utilization of foreign investment reached US$ 2.29 billion dollars, up 59% than last year..
Foreign Trade: In 2002, pace for export in Shanghai suburbs has been accelerated with foreign export trade reached US$ 10.008 billion dollars, accounting 30.8% nearly one third of Shanghai’s total US$ 32.4 billion dollars export volume, up 15% from the city’s overall increase. Direct export volume of industry in Shanghai suburbs reached US$ 9.704 billion dollars, up 32% from last year, among which export volume from foreign-funded enterprisers rose to US$ 8.94 billion dollars, occupying 89% of the total export volume in Shanghai suburbs. Self-produced agro- products from Shanghai suburbs involved US$ 0.304 billion dollars, up 24.7% from last year.
Industrial Export: In 2002, Main characteristics of industrial export in suburbs are as follows: Firstly the export volume in each district (county) has been increased, among which SongJiang reached 74%, Fengxian 56%. Export volume of Songjiang,Qingpu, Jiading and Minghang exceeded US$ 2.24 billion dollars, US$ 1.87 billion dollars, US$ 1.7 billion dollars and US$ 1.42 billion dollars respectively while Baoshan, Jinshan, Fengxian and Nanhui were between US$ 0.45 billion dollars to US$ 0.75 billion dollars. Secondly the export market in the United States and Europe held a strong momentum, up 51% and 101% from last year.
Foreign-funded Company Management: Foreign-funded companies play an important role in the development of Shanghai suburbs. 4992 companies were operated in 2002, up 21% from the previous period. Annual income of industrial sales reached 144.7 billion yuan , up 24% from last year. Export of foreign-funded enterprises generated US$ 8.95 billion dollars, up 31% from last year, accounting 89.4% of the total export volume in suburbs. Profit of foreign-funded companies exceeded 14.88 billion yuan, up 174% from last year. Taxation and revenue of foreign-funded companies exceeded 6.59 billion dollars, up 20% from last year. Among suburban fiscal income, foreign-funded companies have been obviously increased.
Foreign Investment in Agriculture: Pace for foreign investment absorbing in Shanghai suburbs has been quickened. In 2002, 57 foreign projects have been newly approved , involving US$ 170 million dollars, up 157% from last year, mainly include vegetable, horticulture, fruit, aquaculture, agro-products processing.
Agro-products Export: Some agro-products for export have been increased while some decreased. In 2002, agro-products export in Shanghai port reached US$ 0.59 billion dollars, up 5.3% from last year, among which self-produced agro-products rose to US$ 0.304 billion dollars, up 24.7% from last year mainly include processing food involving US$ 80.52 million dollars, up 15%, cooked meat US$ 69.33 million dollars, up 19%, rice US$ 5.38 million dollars, nearly 6 times up, sausage coat US$ 48 million dollars, up 25%, fresh vegetables US$ 44.86 million dollars, up 0.4%, salted vegetables US$ 21.70 million dollars, up 8.2%, frozen poultry US$ 13.43 million dollars, 47% lower than last year. Due to the decrease of agent from other provinces, in 2002 agro- products from foreign trade companies in Shanghai reached US$ 102 million dollars, 30% lower.
Extension to the Outside World: It is the first time that agro-products have been organized in Shanghai to participate the Malaysia International Agriculture International Fair held in the International Exhibition Center from Oct. 1-- 6 2002 in Kuala Lumpur which drew 28 enterprises, 250 varieties from Shanghai delegation to attend the fair. (photo: prime minister of Malaysia attended the opening ceremony and visited Shanghai booths) From June 19 to July 3, delegation from 9 municipal-level industrial parks of Shanghai went to the United States and Canada for investment exploration. 3 projects were signed with total investment of US$ 38 million dollars. On Nov. 22, 2002, Mr. Feng Guoqin, vice mayor attended and delivered a speech in the forum entitled “Investment in Shanghai Suburbs” in Shanghai. |
