Dongping National Forest Park is located in the north-middle part of our country No 3 largest island -- Chongming island, 12 kilometers away from Nanmen harbor ( its county seat ), bordering with Jianshi town in its south part, joining with Shanghai Dongfeng Farm in its east, west and north sides. This park is 1700 meters long in from east to west and 1400-2800 meters wide from south to north with a total area of 3.55 square kilometers ( 358 hectares ), which is the biggest artificial plains forest in East-China area and also the largest-scale forest park in Shanghai.

    Dongping National Forest Park, whose predecessor is the Dongping forestry center, with its land reclamation and formation in 1959, now is formed in certain scale after 30 years forest construction. This park, with lush forest, clear lake, rich wildness and beautiful surrounding, is characterized of loneliness, quietness, elegance and wildness. And its many spots call human being for the yearn towards the nature and indulging in pleasure without stop.

    The main touring and service facilities within the park are unconventional "crab-type" multi-function conference center, Forest bar, Forest healthy center, Forest bathing beach, Water amusement park, beach volleyball player-ground, Youth Camping base, Horse race grounds, Forest hammock, Tent, Barbecue, Orchard, Forest villa, Forest maze, Windmill, etc. The feature items are: Forest sunbathing, Hunting, Colored bullet shooting, Forest grass skiing, Rock-climbing, etc. This park opened to public formally in June, 1989, and started to receive the tourists at the early 90th, attracting the tourists around 700,000 person times. In June, 1993, this park was named as " Dongping National Forest Park" by Ministry of Forestry due to the continues improvement of its scale and facilities; which was so chosen through public appraisal as one of Shanghai Best Ten Vocational Scenic Spots in 1997.

    The future Dongping National Forest Park will be one which integrate the forest sightseeing, conference touring, Healthy resting, Vocational resorts, participate entertainment, etc, and become the attraction resorts of Return to the nature for the tourists home and abroad.
