Laid at the waterfront of picture-like Dianshan Lake, Qingpu County, Shanghai Magnificent Garden covers an area of 1600 mu with water area of 300 mu, 340,000 tree-planting. Three major scenic spots: Magnificent Garden, Shanghai Folk Cultural Village and The Plum Garden, are layout; where ancient and rare trees are planted, and various flowers blossom around seasons. The natural biological environment and artificial landscapes are integrated, which are called as the backyard garden of Shanghai.

Magnificent Garden, according to the Author of the Dream of Red Chamber, Cao Xueqing's writing purpose, was constructed by application of Chinese traditional garden architectural method, with the style of both empire garden and Jiangnan garden, which is the main scenic spot in the touring area, and won the silver prize issued by National Planning Committee, and national working quality "Luban prize" and Shanghai "Best Ten Buildings" title.

Shanghai Folk Cultural Village, with its outstanding and unique theme, mainly displays the cultural essences of Chinese ten major minorities' architecture, food and their living activities.

The Plum Garden, where more than 4000 plums of 20 kinds are planted, is the biggest and most complete one of its kind and the best sight for Shanghai citizens to explore and enjoy the plums.

Since its opening to public in 1984, Shanghai Magnificent Garden has already received 15,000,000 personnel times of foreign and domestic visitors, and successfully completed the important reception task of CPC and national leaders, foreign government heads and domestic and foreign eminent persons; and also used as one of the photograph spots for domestic and foreign film, TV and photograph shutterbugs. In 1997, " Magnificent Garden " and " Shanghai Folk Cultural Village " won "Shanghai Best Ten New Scenic Spots" and "Shanghai Best Ten Beauty New Sights" titles separately.

Shanghai Magnificent Garden, with its touring and sightseeing as the dragon head item, has already formed an integrated service system of eating, residing, shopping and entertaining, it is capable of receiving 150 persons group for conference, vacation, touring purpose; and also has the modern entertainment items like floatplane, yacht, aeroboat, shooting, etc. And furthermore its annual "Red Chamber Culture and Art Festival" become an eye-catching attraction in Shanghai.
