Located at Juejia House, Changnan Village at the intersection of Huitai Road and Changnan Road in the south of Lujing, Baoshan District and the east of Dachang Town, Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall covers an area of about 3820 square meters and a construction area of 1910 square meters. Tao Xingzhi, the people’s educator set up Shanhaigong Study Association in 1932 to carry out education reform, which was very influential throughout the country. To memorize him, the Memorial Hall was built in Dachang Town in 1986. The exhibition hall is located in the east side and reception room and lecture room are located in the middle. On the west side are offices, reference room and guesthouse. The Memorial Hall mainly exhibits the documents for researching and publicizing Tao Xingzhi’s educational thoughts. There are inscriptions of Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Song Qinglin and Feng Yuxiang and Jiang Zemin, Hu Yaobang and Liu Haishu for the hall. The environment here is very graceful, decorated with the pond, bridge, hill stone and zigzag paths. It’s ancient and solemn, which is characteristic of the style of the region to the south of Yangtze River. You can see the Marble Head Statue and the sitting statue of Tao Xingzhi with a book in hand through the booming wood. The famous saying by Tao Xingzhi is imposingly carved on the white wall—“Coming with a heart and going without claiming anything”. Tens of thousands of people visit this hall every year, either for study or respect.
