| The Museum is located in Haibin Residence Community, the eastern part of Lujing, BaoShan District, closing to the Wusong mouth at joining point of Huanpu River and Changjiang River, covering an area of 11,000 square meters with its building area of 5000 meters. The museum originally was Changjiang Warship Memorial Hall, which was converted into China Navy History and East china Navy Fleet Brief History Exhibition Hall in June, 1991; and further extended into an half-round modern building in late time. The gate-post at right side of the museum is very similar to the wind sail, At the left side Hall ridge, four warship columns stand, connected with one hull beam in middle, which symbolizes Chinese Navy development and growth. There is an "H" shaped architecture sculpture with five flag posts in front of main gate, one golden key hanging on the transverse bar of the sculpture, symbolizing that it call up the children to open the door of the ocean and navy knowledge with this key. The exhibition hall consists of three-storeys, including Chinese Navy History, Brief East China Sea Navy Fleet History, World Ocean Wonders, World Military Weapons, Navy Weapons, Ocean culture, and Ocean Amusement seven display and show rooms, and one open weapon display ground. The museum possesses more than 200 pieces of rare ocean seashells, real biological bodies and weapons, 2,000 pieces of rare historical photos, and 40 pieces of ancient ship models, modern ship models and aero-modellings, displaying the sea wars histories starting from the Qing Dynasty boat battles, New Chinese Navy dignified discipline, and showing our country magnificent and mystic coastlines scenery and seabed world wonder. The displayed sea treasures are imposing and wonderful. The opening ceremony for the museum was held on Nov. 18th, 1992, and being named Navy Shanghai Museum, for which Chairman Jiang Zheming, did inspection and inscribed the museum name on Nov. 21st, the same year. Late other central government, Shanghai Municipal Government leaders: Liu Huaqing, Wu Banguo, Huang Ju have visited it and given the instructions in person.
In April, 1994, Baoshan District and Navy Shanghai Museum jointly established the Shanghai Baoshan Navy Youth Military School, which became one of youth education bases in Shanghai. In 1996, the museum has been chosen as a national youth education base. The newly-built indoor shooting range can provide the pistol and rifle shooting sports. Since its establishment, museum has already received more than 300,000 person times of young pupils and other visitors.
