A Brief Introduction:

Shanghai Sunqiao Modern Agricultural Development Zone was built on September, 1994. It is the fifth functional development area following Lujiazui Finance and Trade Region of Pudong New Area, Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Jingqiao Exporting Area, and Zhangjiang High-tech Park. The development zone is established for the purpose of speeding up the process of agricultural construction and the integration of city and villages. It has set up an example for promoting the development of Shanghai suburb and modern agriculture of the Yangtze River drainage area.

Backed up by industrialized agriculture with modern science and technology and facilities, with hi-tech bio-engineering and fine processing of agricultural products related to facility agriculture as its pillar industry, and giving top priority to foreign trade and the development of green, pollution-free agricultural products, the Development Zone pursues agricultural industrialization, which integrates production, processing, and marketing on the one hand, and incorporates agriculture, science and tourism on the other. Moreover, it gives full play to its role of production demonstration, promotion and popularization, sightseeing, education of popular science, and export-oriented industry to realize the integration of its social, economic, and ecological benefits.

The zone is located in Sunqiao Town with a planned area of 9 square kilometers. It is situated at the combination of town and country, with outer liner on its south side, Zhangjiang High-tech Park on its north side. It is 20 km away from Waigaoqiao port, and 20 km away from Waigaoqiao Harbor. The Development Zone enjoys convenient transportation and forms a hi-tech economic corridor with Waigaoqiao, Jinqiao, and Zhangjiang High-Tech Park. The zone has developed an area of 4 square kilometers. Currently, there are over 60 enterprises registered in the Zone, with Shanghai Sunqiao Modern Agricultural Joint Development Co., Ltd. responsible for tender and investment invitation, development management, and organization.

For 8 years development, it has completed the infrastructure of “seven connections and one leveling”. The zone will create a fitful environment for agricultural industry. The zone has basically formed an initial pattern of modern urban agriculture. Now it has become a good place of sightseeing and leisure for domestic and foreign tourists.

Natural environment:

The Development Zone has passed the ISO14000 environmental quality system attestation. The Zone boasts flat topography and fertile soil with convenient irrigation and draining systems. The groundwater level is 1-1.2 meters, with the PH value of water ranging from 7.5 to 7.8, and the EC value from 0.6 to 0.9. The PH value of soil is about 7.5. The Zone enjoys a mild and moist climate with marked seasonal changes dominated by East Asia monsoon in north subtropical zone, an annual average sunshine time of 2,091 hours, and an annual total sun radiation of 477.5 kilojoules per square centimeter. The annual average temperature in the Zone is 15.5℃, with the extreme highest being 38℃ and the extreme lowest –9.6℃. In addition, it enjoys 230 or so frost-free days and about 131 rainy days in a year with an annual rainfall of 1,087 mm. The comprehensive pollution indexes of the irrigation water, soil, and air in the Zone are all up to the set standard, ideal for production of green food.
