 Located on the bank of Dianshan Lake in the west part of Shanghai, Zhujiajiao is adjacent to Jiangsu province and Zhejiang Province. No. 318 Highway runs across the town only 30km away from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. ItĄŻs a typical place of abundance in the region south to the Yangtze River and the historical and cultural town that has been most completely preserved in Shanghai. 
With a long history, Zhujiajiao boasts rich culture. People lived here as early as Liangzhu Culture Period 5000 years ago. It has raised many outstanding people, such as Lu Shusheng, minister of protocal in Ming Dynasty, Wang Xu, senior official of the criminal ministry in Qing Dynasty and Chen Lianfang, imperial doctor. Many historical sites and places of scenes are preserved, including several temples built in Song and Yuan Dynasties and 36 beautifully-designed ancient stone bridges built in Ming and Qing dynasties like five-arched animal freeing bridge, three-arched stone bridge with nine peaks and sole-arched TaiĄŻan bridge. There are 9 old streets along the river. ItĄŻs well known that there are thousands of famous shops on the three-li-long street. ItĄŻs really a prosperous view.
Zhujiajiao is a graceful and quiet ancient town. Walking on the zigzag stone pathway and the winding long lanes, you seem to watch an elegant and fresh painting: bridge over the river, houses built in Ming and Qing dynasties, black-top boats and willows on the bank. ItĄŻs a very pleasant picture. On the occasion of traditional programs, the people in the town like to carry out many folk activities, like dragon boat match, sailing contest, water lights and performances in the streets on the tour.
With the deepening of the reform and opening-up, the ancient town is developing rapidly. Many scenic spots have been developed and open to the public, like Baoguo Temple, the Temple housing the town god, Zhuxi Garden, Wang Xu Memorial Hall, Ming and Qing Dynasty Streets and Animal Freeing Bridge. They attract many visitors every day. There are the biggest water sports ground in Asia, International Golf Course, Dadian Lake Tourist Resort and Xiyangdian Angling Club. It has modern tourism supportive facilities integrating dining, accommodation, travelling, touring, shopping and recreation.
Now, Shanghai Municipal Government regards Zhujiajiao Town as the key tourism development zone and the spearhead of the tourism in Qingpu District. The unique natural beauty and the human resources attract a lot of investors both at home and abroad. Together with the local people, they are developing this precious land into the beautiful backyard garden of Shanghai to lay a sound basis for applying for the status of State Cultural Preservation Unit and United Nations Cultural Heritage.
