Introduction: As the home of Chinese mitten crabs, Chongming, with its favorable natural environment, provides unique ecological conditions for the growth and multiplication of crabs. After over 20 years of arduous development, it has transformed itself from a small-scale and decentralized production into one on a large scale that takes lead in the industry, forming a new development pattern of the crab industry featuring the production of quality crabs species within the island and the mass production of commercial crabs beyond. This year, the overall breeding area of crabs in Chongming has reached 1.13 million mu, with an estimated production of quality crabs of over 600 million and approximately 10,000 tons of commercial crabs on a large scale. The annual production value is expected to reach as high as RMB900 million yuan, making Chongming the first county in China that boasts over 1 million mu of breeding area of crabs.
