Shanghai Jinshan Silver Dragon Vegetable Processing Plant, conveniently located at 228 of the Cheting Highway, Tinglin Town, Jinshan District, is a state-owned enterprise specializing in vegetable anti-staling, processing and exporting. With the power of import and export on its own and the registered trademark “Shanghai Silver Dragon”, it processes and sells various kinds of vegetables. Backed up by the District Vegetable Office and the District Vegetable Technology Promotion Center, the Plant presently boasts 23 technicians, among whom 4 are with senior professional qualification and 12 with intermediate professional qualification. The Plant’s own farms and agricultural companies in different towns are responsible for production while product purchasing and processing are left in the charge of the processing enterprises.
Founded in the autumn of 1999, the Plant had, by the end of 2001, had a total investment of fixed assets of RMB8.16 million yuan. In 2002, it invested RMB24 million yuan for the construction of a new assembly line for vegetable cutting and slicing processing. Currently, the Plant covers a ground space of 50 mu, of which 6,000 square meters is the floor space. In addition to the dining hall, the power distribution substation, and some other auxiliary and coordinating equipment, the integral vegetable anti-staling and processing workshop takes up 4,000 square meters, the cutting & slicing anti-staling and processing workshop 2,360 square meters, and the ice house 1,400 square meters. The Plant has an annual processing capacity of 2 tons of anti-staling integral vegetables and 0.5 ton of anti-staling cutting & slicing vegetables.
The Plant has built specialized production bases within the District that are distributed in its own farms and other 56 farms in 14 towns with a total area of more than 27,000 mu. These farms, bestowed with convenient transportation and excellent infrastructure facilities, conduct standardization planting under the guidance of the District Vegetable Office and the District Vegetable Technology Promotion Center. They depend mainly on bio-pesticide for pest prevention, scientifically use farm chemicals and fertilizers, keep a detailed record of fieldwork, and test their products by way of self-examination or sampling, which effectively ensure the safety of their products and prevent them from being polluted.
The Plant produces the following vegetables in spring: cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, pumpkin, green onion, and spinach. Its autumn products include broccoli, cleome gynandra, cabbage, lettuce, pumpkin, spinach, green onion, carrot, and red cabbage.
The climate of Jinshan District: The District enjoys a favorable climate with marked seasonal changes, sufficient rainfall, plenty of sunlight, and an integration of sunshine, heat and water almost within the same season. The annual average temperature is 15.6℃, with the highest being 38.3℃ and the lowest 10.8℃ below zero. The District has an annual frost-free period of 228.3 days, sunlight hours of 1975.6 hours, and a rainfall of 1116.9 mm.

Cabbage: Packing standard: 20kg packed in string bag with each wrapped in paper; 10/15kg packed in cardboard box; 10kg packed in plastic bag The packed cabbages are round in shape, glossy in surface, solid in core, fresh and green in color. After processing, each cabbage packed weighs about 1.25kg and is both attractively looking and nutritious. The cabbage is available all year round with prices negotiable in person.
Broccoli: Packing standard: 3kg packed in hard plastic box with ice or wrapped in paper; 8kg packed in foam plastic box with ice. The packed vegetables are in the shape of a microphone. They are round and even in shape with solid buds, deep green color, a few leaves and part of the stem left from processing. Each broccoli packed weighs about 0.25kg. The broccoli is available from late April to the middle of May and from late October to early March in the next year. Prices are negotiable in person.
Lettuce Packing standard: 8kg/15kg packed in cardboard box with each wrapped in plastic bag. The packed lettuces are round and even in shape with light green color, sufficient water, and crystal-clear looking. Each lettuce packed weighs about 500g. The lettuce tastes delicious raw or boiled and is full of nutrition. It is available from late October to the middle of May in the next year, with prices negotiable in person.
Cleome gynandra: Packing standard: 8kg packed in cardboard box with a few leaves on the vegetable; 8kg packed in cardboard box without any leaves with each wrapped in plastic bag. The packed vegetables are in the shape of a semicircle. The advanced processing technology required makes them spotless and flawless with color evenly distributed. No mildew or stain is allowed for the packed vegetables. Each vegetable weighs about 1kg. They are available from the middle of October to the middle of March in the next year, with prices negotiable in person.
Fine-processed anti-staling vegetables Fine-processed anti-staling vegetables are the result of using a set of internationally renowned assembly line for vegetable slicing, shredding and cubing. The vegetables thus processed can be taken raw without cleaning. They are safe, hygienic, and highly nutritious. All vegetables can be cut and sliced for processing. The Plant focuses mainly on the processing of lettuce and cabbage. The sliced vegetables have three standards: 3.2mm, 4.8mm, and 9.5mm. The shredded vegetables have five standards: 4.8mm, 9.5mm, 6.4mm, 12.7mm, and 25.4mm. The cubed vegetables have two standards: 19*19mm and 34.5*38mm Every kilogram of the above three vegetables is packed in a plastic bag, and four bags make a cardboard box. They are available all year round with prices negotiable in person.
American small cucumber The small cucumbers are introduced from America. Treated with unique technology and special method, the prickled cucumbers are delicious and nutritious. They can be kept for a long time in normal temperature. They are packed in large plastic bags and cardboard boxes with solution. Each box has a net weight of 900kg and a gross weight of 1,400kg.
