In recent years, the developing of economic of Shanghai has been changed with each passing day. With the airport and information harbor set up, following with the deep-water harbor project started, a new international metropolis has been emerged perfectly.

With the international metropolis image set up, a lot of world communities and enterprises enter. With people’s living standard raising, the demands of beautifying life are more and more strong, more green products are demanded. This brings a good chance to develop modern agriculture.

According to the general aim of Shanghai agricultural development during its Tenth-Five-Year Plan and in order to realize to adjust urban agriculture structure, Shanghai Flower Port Development Co. Ltd. is set up. It is invested by Sino-Dutch Horticultural Training & Demonstration Center (state-own asset evaluated and authorized), Shanghai Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial (Group) Corporation and Shanghai Donghai Agricultural, Industrial and Commercial Corporation. Shanghai Flower Port Enterprise Development Co. Ltd. carries out the project.

1.Project Location:
Within the jurisdiction of Donghai State Farm, Nanhui District, Shanghai. North side close to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, South side connecting Shanghai Yangshan Deep-Water harbor, it is 20 and 10 kilometers far away respectively. Geography location: East Longitude 180085’, North Latitude 30052’.

2.Climate Condition:
It belongs to the subtropical maritime climate, has distinguishable season, evenly rainfall, sufficient sun light and appropriate temperature (year-round average temperature 15.50C, year average total day length 2054 hours, year rainfall 1217.6 mm).

3.Layout
The project is scheduled for 99.75 ha. It is divided into three sections.

Section one: young plant production area. 2500 m2 of building for tissue culture is ready. Year production of tissue culture is about 10 million (at present mainly on phalaenopsis).

Section two: cut flower production area. There will be 40 ha of different kinds of greenhouses. Up to now, 20 ha of greenhouses are built up. 17 ha of it have been put into production.   

Section three: flower demonstration area. It occupies about 28 ha, which copies Dutch Tulip park, Keukenhof with a ratio 1: 1. The goal is to combine the demonstration and extension with the modern agriculture sight view. It will officially open to outside in 2005, which will be a window for exhibiting Shanghai’s modern agriculture before the 2010 World EXPO.
