The 7th China-New Zealand Dairy Dialogue was held in Willington, New Zealand on 7 September 2017. Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech.

Vice Minister Yu pointed out that in recent years, China and New Zealand have attached great importance to and promoted with great efforts the development of dairy industry. Bilateral dairy trade has been on the rise while cooperation keeps expanding and deepening, embracing even broader prospects in particular with the signing of the Memorandum of Arrangement on Strengthening Cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative between the two governments in April this year. China has also accelerated transformation and upgrading of its dairy industry in the past few years, fostering steady increase of comprehensive productivity and substantial improvement of quality and safety. China and New Zealand are complementary in resources and share huge potential and possibilities for cooperation.

Vice Minister Yu said that the MOA is willing to strengthen cooperation with New Zealand in areas of key technologies of dairy production, breeding and improvement, two-way investment, and quality and risk control of dairy products, among others, in the principle of mutual benefit and win-win to uplift development of dairy industries in both countries.

Mr. Martyn Dunne, Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries of New Zealand, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Mr. Wang Lutong and representatives from dairy associations, research institutes and business communities of both sides also participated in the event.

After the opening ceremony, the two sides held bilateral talks and reviewed agricultural exchanges and cooperation over the past years and identified a number of priority areas for future cooperation.

During the stay in New Zealand, Vice Minister Yu also visited dairy enterprises such as Fonterra Co-operative Group.
