23rd Session of FAO/IGG on Tea Held in Hangzhou

The 23rd Session of FAO Intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Tea was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, from May 17-20. The session was attended by major tea producers including China, India and Sri Lanka, main tea consumers including the U.K., the U.S. and Germany and 116 delegates from 25 nations or international organizations such as the International Tea Committee (ITC).


The Session of FAO/IGG on Tea is held every two years. The 23rd session sparked discussions and reached consensuses on some key issues of the global tea industry development including standards for tea quality and limits of pesticide residue in tea, international mutual recognition of organic tea as well as promotion of global tea consumption. The session showed development achievements of China’s tea industry and effectively promoted exchanges and cooperation between China and major producers and consumers of tea in the world.


Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.
