The 2nd China International Tea Expo Successfully Concluded

On May 22,  the 2nd China International Tea Expo of five days was concluded  in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. 151,000 visitors participated in the Expo and the transaction volume of tea reached 99.43 tons, with transaction value of 103 million yuan.

Peng Jiaxue, the Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province said at the wrap-up that this Expo with the theme of “Tea and the World, Sharing Development”, has achieved remarkable results in the areas of development of tea industry, cultural exchanges, economic and trade cooperation. The main characteristics of the Tea Expo are as follows: Firstly, large scale. The Tea Expo covers an area of 70,000 square meters with 2,654 standard exhibition booths and 1,540 world famous enterprises from over 30 countries and regions; Secondly, high level. Wu Weihua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, attended the opening ceremony and declared the opening of the Tea Expo. Minister Han Changfu and Yuan Jiajun, the Governor of Zhejiang Province, attended some relevant activities. And 14 Ministers of Agriculture from other countries, seven ambassadors to China, guests from international tea organizations also participated in the Expo; Thirdly, plentiful activities, 14 important activities such as the Session of FAO intergovernmental Group (IGG) on Tea, The First "Tea Talk by the West Lake" International Summit Forum of Chinese Tea Industry and the International Tea and Coffee Dialogue were successfully held; Fourthly, strong participation. 76 Tea Brand Promotion activities were held and the number of visitors reached 151,000. 400 correspondents from 168 medias at home and abroad engaged in the coverage of the Tea Expo.

 The Expo has achieved four fruitful results. Firstly, the Tea Expo has promoted the  trade for tea. By May 22, the transaction volume of tea reached 99.43 tons, with transaction value of 103 million yuan, and 4,253 orders were placed. At the same time, the intended transaction volume stood at 3,406.5 tons, with intended transaction value of 4.288 billion yuan. The biggest order for Jasmine tea of Hengxian County in Guangxi was 195 million yuan. Meanwhile, the intent transaction volume of tea machinery in Zhejiang Province reached 38 million yuan; Secondly, the unique charm of tea culture. With the guidance of tea culture, a series of rich and colorful activities were arranged to publicize, display and experience tea culture. As a result, the extensive and profound tea culture with a long history has been further inherited and developed; Thirdly, promoting the development of world’s tea industry. The Tea Expo, as a platform, displayed some famous tea and tea enterprises around the world as well as achievements of world’s tea industry in quality improvement, brand cultivation and development of the whole industry chain; Fourthly, the Tea Expo promotes exchanges and cooperation between China and the world. During the Session of FAO/IGG on Tea, many consensuses were reached on extensive topics concerning the development of global tea industry, such as standards for tea quality. Through the Tea Expo, exchanges and cooperation in tea industry between China and the rest of the world were further promoted and an international exchanges and cooperation mechanism of more extensive and higher level was established in order to make the Tea Expo play an active role in the building of “One Belt and One Road”.

Tang Ke, Director-General of the Department of Market and Economic Information of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs hosted the wrap-up and announced that the 3rd China International Tea Expo would be held at the Hangzhou International Expo Center on May 18, 2019.
