On September 3, Minister Han Changfu met with Tanzanian Prime Minister Majaliwa during his visit to China and exchanged views on strengthening China-Tanzania agricultural cooperation.
Minister Han first welcomed Majaliwa to visit MARA and thanked him for his great concern and strong support for China-Tanzania agricultural cooperation. Minister Han said that China and Tanzania have strong complementarities in agriculture and great potential for cooperation. China is willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation with Tanzania under the framework of the "Belt and Road Initiative" and the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He suggested that the two sides set up China-Tanzania agricultural cooperation mechanism and hold the first meeting of China-Tanzania agricultural cooperation working group in China next year as well as strengthen human resources development cooperation. China will hold two training courses on agricultural management and technical personnel for Tanzania next year. The two sides will give full play to the role of the agro-industrial park in Tanzania and reinforce cooperation in the areas of agricultural science and technology, agricultural product processing, investment and trade, so that agricultural cooperation achievements between the two sides can better benefit the rural areas of Tanzania and the vast majority of farmers, and contribute to building a community of shared future between China and Africa.
Majaliwa fully agreed with Han on his proposals and expressed his hope to expand the export of high-quality agro-products such as cassava, cotton and coffee of Tanzania to China, in order to increase the added value of agriculture, promote the employment and increase income of farmers for Tanzania.
Vice Minister Qu Dongyu, Tanzania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Augustine Philip Mahiga, Zanzibar Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources, Livestock and Fisheries, Rashid Ali Juma also attended the meeting.
