On September 7, Wu Hongyao, member of Communist Party of China (CPC) Leading Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs met with Ms. Gerardine Mukeshimana, Rwanda Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources. The two sides exchanged their views on promoting bilateral agricultural cooperation.
According to Wu, in recent years, China and Rwanda have carried out pragmatic cooperation and made positive progress in areas such as the establishment of agricultural technology demonstration centers and human resources development. During the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which was successfully held in early September, a series of approaches to develop agriculture have been put forward. Wu suggested that the two sides sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation, establish a mechanism on agricultural cooperation and expand bilateral personnel exchanges in agriculture as well as cooperation in science and technology, trade and investment in pursuit of achieving sustainable development of agricultural technology demonstration centers and promoting the full implementation of agricultural approaches proposed during the 2018 Beijing Summit of FOCAC.
Ms. Mukeshimana extended congratulations on the successful holding of 2018 Beijing Summit of FOCAC and highly appreciated important results for cooperation reached during the summit. She expressed that the Rwandan side is willing to work with the Chinese side, deepen China-Rwanda agricultural cooperation and promote agricultural modernization in Rwanda under the framework of FOCAC.
On September 8, Wu was also invited to attend the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) 2018. During the forum, he shared experience in China-Africa agricultural cooperation and discussed future direction of development with foreign guests.
