From October 11 to 13, at the invitation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the delegation headed by Ma Aiguo, Chief Agronomist of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the 18th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Plus Three (10+3) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The meeting fully recognized the implementation of the ASEAN plus Three Cooperation Strategy on Food, Agriculture and Forestry (APTCS) 2016-2025, discussed issues with common concern such as food security, rural vitalization and global environment and released the joint statement. During the meeting, ASEAN plus Three countries signed the Protocol on Revising the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve Agreement. At the same time, China and ASEAN countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding Between the People’s Republic of China and ASEAN on Food and Agricultural Cooperation.
Ma systematically reviewed agricultural and rural cooperation between China and ASEAN after the 17th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Plus Three and put forward proposals for cooperation in reporting to each other on agricultural and food security policies, rural development exchanges, joint prevention and control of cross-border animal and plant pests and diseases as well as trade in agricultural products, which received positive responses from participants.
During the meeting, Ma also held bilateral talks with Mr. Veng Sakhon, Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery, and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong , Vietnamese Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development. Meanwhile, Ma made a field visit to the China (Guangxi)—Vietnam Experimental Station of High-Quality Crop Varieties and learned about the operation of the station.
