Commemoration of World Food Day 2018 Held in Zhejiang

On October 16, the commemoration of World Food Day 2018 and a series of food security publicity activities in the main venue were organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, All China Women’s Federation and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States in Zhejiang University. 

Zhang Wufeng, head of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, and Peng Jiaxue, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, attended the commemoration and delivered speeches. According to the speech delivered by an official of the Department of International  Cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, he said that the ministry will take the implementation of the rural vitalization strategy as a major task, further deepen rural reform, accelerate agricultural modernization, strengthen basic work involved agriculture and rural areas and realize industrial poverty alleviation in an effective manner. At the same time, China will actively implement follow-up actions taken by the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation so as to make a positive contribution to world food security.

The Release Ceremony of the National “Food Security Star” and the Launching Ceremony of the Visiting Research on Food Security were also held during the commemoration. Meanwhile, institutions and persons including the Central Agricultural Broadcasting and Television School were awarded the title of “Food Security Star”. 

The United Nations designates October 16 as the World Food Day, which celebrates its 38th anniversary this year under the theme of “our actions are our future and realizing Zero Hunger by 2030”.
