Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met with Rwandan Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources Gerardine Mukeshimana in Kigali, Rwanda on November 6, 2018. The two sides exchanged views on furthering China-Rwanda agricultural cooperation.
Vice Minister Qu fully acknowledged that China-Rwanda agricultural cooperation has made achievements in agricultural science and technology, capacity building and agricultural trade, and expressed the willingness to work with the Rwandan side in actively implementing consensus on agricultural cooperation reached by the two heads of state and measures announced at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He hoped that the two sides could intensify all-round practical cooperation, particularly in the establishment of agricultural cooperation mechanisms, exchanges and cooperation of agricultural S&T, human resources development and agricultural investment so as to take the bilateral agricultural cooperation to a new height. Qu also invited Ms. Mukeshimana to the 3rd China International Tea Expo to be held in 2019.
Ms. Mukeshimana spoke highly of the China-sponsored Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center in Rwanda and other projects, giving high remarks on the roles of these projects in increasing agricultural productivity and food security in Rwanda and putting forward proposals for further cooperation.
The two sides jointly identified agricultural S&T, aquaculture and agricultural machinery as the priorities for cooperation in next period.
During his stay in Rwanda, Qu visited the China-sponsored Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center. He put forward suggestions on sustainable development of the Center after a briefing.
