Minister Han Changfu Meets Four Ministers from South America

On November 5, Minister Han Changfu met with four ministers from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile in Shanghai during the 1st China International Import Expo (CIIE). 

Mr. Luis Miguel Etchevehere, Minister of Agroindustry of Argentina, stated that Argentina attaches great importance on its cooperation with China and is ready to provide China with the best and safest agricultural products through joint efforts in pursuit of meeting the increasing demands of Chinese consumers. The Argentine side is willing to encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in mutually beneficial and win-win projects such as fisheries and land development in Argentina.

Mr. Blairo Maggi, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply of Brazil, viewed China as an important strategic partner of cooperation and said that Brazil would like to vigorously push forward China-Brazil agricultural trade and cooperation in agricultural science and technology, especially exchanges of biotechnology as always. The Brazilian side also expressed the willingness to become a trusted and permanent supplier of agricultural products for China.

Mr. Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, fully agreed to work together for an open global economy that is innovative and inclusive, the concept put forward by President Xi Jinping at the 1st CIIE. He hoped that the two countries will proactively deepen their cooperation in areas of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry on the basis of the strategic partnership.

Mr. Antonio Walker, Minister of Agriculture of Chile, expressed that the rapid growth of agricultural trade between China and Chile is an important driving force for promoting agricultural cooperation between the two countries. Besides fresh fruits, Chile is ready to provide more high-quality agricultural products to China. Since fruitful achievements have been realized in China-Chile cooperation in agricultural science and technology, Chile would like to give more support to the demonstration farms respectively built up in the two countries. 

Minister Han Changfu extended warm welcome to the four ministers for their participation of  the 1st CIIE and stated that, as China’s important strategic partners in Latin America, the four countries and China are highly complementary in agriculture. Therefore, the long-term strategic cooperation between China and Latin America will benefit the two peoples. China is willing to further expand import of agricultural products from Latin America and deepen China-Latin America cooperation in trade and investment as well as joint research on agricultural science and technology in order to further enrich the connotation of China-Latin America cooperation.
