Accompanying Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua for the 6th China-France High-Level Economic and Financial Dialogue, Vice Minister Qu Dongyu held a counterpart talk with Dicarlo, deputy director of the General Directorate for Economic and Environmental Performance of Enterprises of the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food, in Paris, France on December 7.

Qu proposed that the two sides take the opportunity of implementing the results of the 6th China-France High-Level Economic and Financial Dialogue to push forward the comprehensive development of agricultural cooperation between the two countries. Firstly, the two sides should improve the agricultural cooperation mechanism and hold regular meetings of China-France Mixed Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food Cooperation. Secondly, the two sides should strengthen agricultural science and technology cooperation, give full play to the joint laboratories as a platform, and encourage scientific research institutes of China and France to jointly apply for scientific research projects like the Horizon 2020. Thirdly, the two sides should carry out tripartite cooperation in agriculture, and co-implement agricultural development projects in French-speaking African countries to help achieve the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Fourthly, the two sides should carry out agricultural and rural policy exchanges, and effectively facilitate the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, the cultivation of a new type of agricultural entities and the development of modern farmers' vocational education.

Deputy director Dicarlo fully agreed with Qu and expressed France’s willingness to work with China to deepen cooperation in various agricultural aspects.

During his stay in France, Qu also studied the management for agricultural cooperatives, inaugurated the China-France International Joint Laboratory for Plant Protection with Philippe Mauguin, chief executive of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research, and witnessed the exchange of letter of intent on the establishment of the International Joint Laboratory for Wheat Genomics and Breeding between the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the French National Institute for Agricultural Research
