Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met with the first African Union (AU) Representative to China Rahamtalla Mohamed Osman Elnor in Beijing on December 26.
Vice Minister Qu warmly congratulated Mr. Rahamtalla on his appointment as the AU Representative to China and the two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on strengthing China-AU agricultural cooperation and jointly implementing the agricultural measures of the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Qu stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has formulated a detailed action plan for implementing the agricultural measures of the Beijing Summit and hopes to work with AU in order to implement those measures. Qu also made proposals on future cooperation, including establishing a China-AU agricultural cooperation mechanism, signing the Memorandum on cooperation, jointly formulating a cooperation plan for China-Africa agricultural modernization, strengthening cooperation in agricultural science and technology under the “10+10” cooperation mechanism between Chinese and African agricultural research institutes, and exploring tripartite cooperation.
Mr. Rahamtalla highly appreciated proposals put forward by Qu and expressed his thanks to China for its long-standing selfless support and assistance for African development. According to Mr. Rahamtalla, China is a trustworthy partner of Africa and that AU is ready to work closely with the Chinese side to implement the various agricultural measures of the Beijing Summit in pursuit of improving agricultural development in Africa.
