Minister Han Changfu recently met successively with David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), and Gilbert F. Houngbo, President of International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Italy and they had an in-depth exchange of views on strengthening cooperation between China and the two organizations in areas of food security, poverty alleviation, development of small farmers and rural revitalization.
Minister Han acknowledged the efforts and achievements made by WFP in providing emergency humanitarian food aids, and expressed that China will further deepen cooperation with WFP and is willing to actively advance in-kind donations, multilateral cooperation with Belt and Road countries, South-South cooperation and tripartite cooperation.
Minister Han also stated that China and IFAD has carried out fruitful cooperation in promoting China’s rural poverty alleviation and agricultural development. The two sides are highly consistent in the philosophy of poverty elimination of small farmers and agricultural development. China will continue to enhance cooperation with IFAD and is ready to share the experience with other developing countries through deepening South-South cooperation.
Mr. Beasley and Mr. Houngbo expressed gratitude for China’s long-standing support over past years and emphasized that China’s experience can serve as a significant reference for other developing countries. They are ready to further strengthen all-round cooperation with China.
Niu Dun, Representative of Permanent Representation of the People's Republic of China to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, attended the meeting.
