Shanghai unveils its development plan for Fuxing Island on February 17, aiming to build the only island along the city's Huangpu River into a paradise for ecology, recreation and forum.
The plan is outlined based on the contributions of four internationally renowned design companies. It covers 144 hectares of the island, targeting at turning 75 percent of the area into green spaces. Currently, there are 3,000 trees of 71 types on the island, including magnolias, camphor's, maples, pines, and osmanthus.
As planned, an stretch of wetland on the east of the island will be reserved, while 12 hectares of water areas around the island will be used for development.
Besides an island with perfect ecological system, Fuxing Island will serve as a hot land for public recreation, with international centers for conference, heath care, recreation as well as a yacht club and water-bus port planned on it. No single private housing project will be built on the Fuxing Island.
Also designed as an island of forum, Fuxing Island will function as a conference center for international academic exchanges.
A scene avenue is planned on Fuxing, leading to a bridge stretching out to connect the island with the other part of the city.
Quietness, harmony, elegance and naturalness are the general effect designed for Fuxing.
