Last year, Songjiang Export Processing Zone of Shanghai had an export value of US$5.45 billion, a five-time increase than in the previous year and accounting for 54.2 percent of the total export value of the state’s export processing zones.
Songjiang Export Processing Zone has laptop computers as its major exports, whose export value amounted to US$3.86 billion last year, making up 70.8 percent of the Zone’s total export value. Tech-Front (Shanghai) Computer Co., Ltd. produces more than 800 thousand laptop computers every month, which accounts for 27 percent of the world’s production, turning itself into the largest production base for laptop computers. At present, Songjiang Export Processing Zone boasts two production sections. Section A covers an area of 2.98 square kilometers, with 58 registered enterprises and a total investment of US$820 million. Section B has a planned area of 3 square kilometers and passed the national acceptance on 23rd November last year.
