Shanghai to Start the World’s Largest Bridge and Tunnel Project

The feasibility report on the cross-river tunnel project at Chongming in Shanghai has been approved by the State Council. After the completion of this project, it will take less than 30 minutes to drive from Wuhaogou in Pudong to Chenjiazhen in Chongming. The method of shield construction will be adopted to build the tunnel and the shield will be the world’s biggest. In accordance with the ventilation requirement of the tunnel, a uniquely shaped ventilation well will be erected above the Nangang Tunnel at the shallow beach to the side of the Changxing Island adjacent to the Yangtze River. Presently, the Chongming Cross-River Tunnel Project Company is working hard to organize the submission of the preliminary designing of the project for assessment and examination and to prepare for the international procurement of the shield.
