Shanghai mayor Han Zheng, accompanied by vice Shanghai mayor Zhou Taitong, inspected the work on Rural Social Insurance in Qingpu and Songjiang districts on the afternoon of November 18.

After examining the construction site of the Taipu River water project, Han and Zhou visited local farmers who have participated in Rural Social Insurance. Later, at a meeting, mayors heard work reports from local leaders from Songjiang, Jinshan, Qingpu, Fengxian, Nanhui and Jiading districts.

During the meeting Han indicated that the promotion of Rural Social Insurance related to the solution of many social security problems in rural areas. The RSI was welcomed by farmers and popular among the grass roots. We must keep on working to benefit the farmers by our actions, Han added.

To meet this goal, Han is planning the following measures: to increase farmers' income; to ensure farmers' basic securities; to raise more capital to solve farmers'living problems; and to strengthen macro-guidance but leave more room for the local governments.
