City's first dairy museum opens doors

The city's first dairy museum opened to the public on Wanrong Road near Daning Park yesterday.

The China Dairy Museum hosts various old artifacts that were once used in the dairy industry and also provides interesting interactive games for young visitors.

"Visitors can learn a lot of useful dairy-related knowledge in this museum that will do good to their health," Lu Hongsheng, vice curator of the museum, said yesterday after the opening ceremony.

With the total exhibition of more than 1,000 square meters, the museum consists of three parts that chronologically display the development of China's dairy industry through ancient, contemporary and modern times.

Lu said that the most important exhibit in the museum is an award certificate with the autograph of the country's first Premier Zhou Enlai to recognize the excellent performance of a local state-run dairy company in 1953.

Visitors to the museum can watch a simplified demonstration of how milk is produced.

They can also learn what particular kind of milk - such as low fat or yogurt - is best suited for their health.

According to Shanghai's Science and Technology Commission, the city plans to open 10 popular science museums by the end of this year.

The eventual plan is to establish 100 trade museums in the city.
