Pilot Free Compulsory Education Being Conducted in Shanghai’s Suburbs

During the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, compulsory education in the rural area will become total free. Some relevant official in Shanghai Municipal Education Commission said that so far Shanghai has not received any relevant documents from the Ministry of Education, but many suburbs of Shanghai have already implemented pilot free compulsory education quietly. In this autumn semester, the municipal and district governments of Shanghai have allocated over RMB80 million yuan and will implement the new policy featuring “exemptions of miscellaneous and textbook expenses and subsidies for the living expenses”.
