Farmers at Malu Town in Shanghai Enjoys Pension from Their Requisitioned Land

Malu Town of Shanghai has worked out a scheme that enables seniors in the countryside to enjoy pension from their requisitioned land through the channel of putting their land on file to address the transition from a rural household to an urban resident. According to the scheme, seniors in the countryside can hand over their land to the township government for filing and administration, and in return the township government will provide them with a considerable amount of pension, which starts from RMB440 yuan every month and will be raised on a yearly basis. In addition, 70 percent to 90 percent of the medical expenses of the seniors can also be applied for reimbursement. Ever since the implementation of this scheme, over 95 percent of the seniors in Malu Town have chosen to enjoy pension through land requisition on the basis of voluntary participation. As a result, their living expenses have become more than doubled.
