Local anti-bird flu measures announced
 

The government spokesperson informed the public of the seven measures to counter bird flu currently at yesterday's bi-weekly press conference. Work relating to bird flu prevention and control are expected to have a long-term effect and an imminent impact in case of emergencies at the same time, Jiao Yang, the spokeswoman said.

The seven measures are as follows.
Firstly, to intensify observations on migratory birds, the sampling of live poultries to form a enhanced oversight and alarm system.
Secondly, to arrange strict exit-entry checks on the vehicles carrying animals, ensuring that they enter the city only from the eight designated channels and the 24-hour monitoring service is effective.
Thirdly, to intensify oversight on poultry and fowl trading. Live chicken trading are only allowed in 461 designated markets. Dead poultry, if found, will be specially treated to be no more infectious or harmful. Water fowl or precious fowl species are all banned.
Fourthly, to intensify immunization and sterilization.
Fifthly, to keep a clear record of the situations at different stages and different management levels. The government refined its emergency reaction plan, setting up a mechanism including a daily reporting system that keeps track of the situation and changes taking place everyday and a weekly reporting system that records what's done for prevention and control.
Sixthly, to increase pulicizing. Hand out pamphlets, hang posters, set up hotlines, organize training courses to enlarge bird flu awareness.
Seventhly, to step up the construction of the city's emergency reaction system and increase our reserve to counter urgent instances so that once an outburst takes place, the plan will be executed.
