A new mode of domestic waste treatment featuring collection with complete coverage, transportation in a fully enclosed container, and harmless disposal is triggering a “green campaign” in Shanghai’s Chongming County.

After one year’s effort, Chongming County has made a total investment of RMB150 million yuan and built a transfer treatment system for waste collection. In the rural area of Chongming where domestic wastes were treated casually, specific personnel are now assigned to carry away the sorted domestic organic and inorganic wastes every day. The 400 tons of domestic wastes produced everyday on the island are carried away to a specifically designated place for comprehensive treatment. Efforts are being made to clear the wastes on a daily basis.
