Zhujiajiao ancient water town in Qingpu District is planning to set up itself as a model of good living, according to the Zhujiajiao International Livable City Summit Forum held over the weekend.
Focusing on the standards of a livable city, bottlenecks in development, and with examples of livable cities from home and abroad, the one-day event attracted dozens of leading figures from government departments, real estate, international funds as well as artists.
The Chinese government is committed to developing energy-saving and environmentally friendly livable cities or towns, said Qingpu district government officials.
They see Zhujiajiao as an ideal town in suburban Shanghai. "We hope it will become the first option for media people and high-income earners to settle. Zhujiajiao qualifies as a livable city in six aspects - including social civilization, booming economy, beautiful sights, rich resources, convenient traffic and fine public security."
