Business is brisk after flower market relocates

The city's first indoor flower market has moved to Zhenbei Road, Putuo District.

The new Cao'an Flower Market hosts stores selling flowers, birds, pets and gardening products.

A canteen, a tea house and a clinic are also located in the market.

About 240 store owners in the old market have moved to the new location and reported booming business on yesterday's opening day.

Zhu Yongbing, who sells birds, had sold eight thrushes for more than 1,000 yuan (US$135) in the morning.

Almost all the store owners are paying a lower rent than they did in the old market. The place was once a small-scale outdoor bird market and a haven for bird lovers.

The old Cao'an Flower Market, built in 1992, is located on Wuning Road, Putuo District.

Because construction is under way to widen nearby Daduhe Road, the Putuo District government decided the market had to move.

The Cao'an Flower Market gives daily reports of the flower prices to markets all over the country. Shanghai has 54 flower markets.
