A few days ago, the Lily Seed-Ball Multiplication Base of Shanghai Flower Port at Yuxi in Yunnan Province had a harvest of its first batch of 400 thousand seed-balls for commercial use and the sales started at the same time.
The base, located at Huangcaoba at an altitude of 2,200 meters, covers an area of over 2,000 mu. Currently, the coordinating cold chain, sheds and other facilities have been set up one after another, forming a complete production chain of scale treatment, seed-ball multiplication, commercial bulb cultivation, sterilization, and freezing storage. Starting from the next year, the base will increase its annual capacity for seed-ball production from the current 5 million to 50 million, with aim to realize the industrialized development plan of lily seed-ball production. As the seed-balls are localized in production, the average cost of each will be lowered by RMB1 to 2 yuan compared with the imported one because of the elimination of tariff and the reduction in transportation cost.
