Shanghai Explores New Space to Provide Insurance for Agriculture, Rural Area and Farmers

Currently, the coverage of Shanghai’s agricultural insurance has accounted for about 30% of the insurable agricultural resources, among which almost all the rice, poultry and milking cows of the city have been insured. In addition, over 80% of the city’s pigs are also under insurance. On the basis of the elementary coverage, the focus of insurance this year will be extended to cover seed source agriculture, the purity of seeds, the prospective capacity of production, agricultural product circulation and consumption. During the first half of this year, Anxin Agricultural Insurance signed and issued the first “Insurance Policy for Pork Food Safety” in China, and the number of the first insured pork dealers amounted to nearly 80. Later, it also signed “Insurance Policies for Vegetable Quality Safety” with Shanghai Yinlong Vegetable Base in Jinshan District and the City Supermarket. In the future, “Insurance for Food Quality Safety” will be extended to cover aquatic products, fruits and other agricultural products, safeguarding agricultural products “from field to dinner table”.
