Shanghai, located at the eastern fringe of the Yangtze River Delta and along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and Taihu Lake Valley, with the estuary of the Yangtze River on the north, standing against the Hangzhou Bay on the south and facing the East China Sea on the east, is surrounded by water on three sides, in a plain tidal river network zone. There are 33,127 rivers, with a total length of 24,915 kilometers, a river network density of 3.93 km / sq km, and an area of 569.6 square kilometers. Shanghai has 26 lakes, covering an area of 73.1 square kilometers. The total area of the rivers (lakes) is 642.7 square kilometers with the water surface rate of 10.1%.
